President's Welcome  Message

Welcome to Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, Beta Beta - Houston Chapter!

I am honored to welcome you to our esteemed community of nursing professionals dedicated to excellence, scholarship, and leadership in nursing. As a member of Beta Beta – Houston, you are part of a network that values lifelong learning, collaboration, and the advancement of nursing practice.

Sigma Theta Tau (STT) International Nursing Honor Society is guided by its foundational Pillars, which represent the core values and principles that shape its vision and mission. These Pillars serve as the cornerstone of the Society's commitment to excellence in nursing. Here are the Pillars of Sigma Theta Tau:

1.    Leadership:  STT values leadership at all levels of nursing practice, education, and research. We seek to empower nurses to lead change, advance health, and elevate the nursing profession through a visionary leadership.

2.    Scholarship: We are committed to scholarly inquiry and academic excellence, which is central to STT’s mission. STT promotes the generation, dissemination, and application of nursing knowledge to improve health outcomes and inform evidence-based practice.

3.    Service: STT emphasizes the importance of service to others, both within the nursing profession and in the broader community. We encourage nurses to contribute their time, skills, and expertise to address the needs of individuals, families, and communities, fostering a culture of caring and compassion.

4.    Fellowship: Building and nurturing a global community of nursing professionals is a key aspect of STT's vision. We want to foster fellowship among its members by creating opportunities for networking, collaboration, and mutual support, which leads to enhanced professional growth and development.

Vision: STT envisions a world where nurses lead in using knowledge, scholarship, service, and fellowship to improve health for all.

Mission: The mission of STT is to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. The Society achieves this mission through leadership development, scholarship opportunities, service initiatives, and fostering a global community of nursing excellence.

By upholding these Pillars and embracing its vision and mission, we strive to inspire and empower nurses to reach their full potential and contribute to the advancement of nursing practice, education, and research on a global scale.

Whether you are a new member or a returning one, I would like to encourage you to engage with us in our events, participate in our initiatives, and connect with fellow members who share your passion for nursing. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our patients, our profession, and our community.

As a member, we thank you for your commitment to nursing excellence. I look forward to your contributions and to supporting you in your journey as a nursing leader.

2023 Outstanding Member Award

Dr. Sabrenda Littles was chosen for the Outstanding Member Award.  Dr. Littles has done an outstanding job this past year as the Chapter President.  She was continously involved throughout the year as evidence by her involvement in chapter activities and mentorship to multiple members in Beta Beta Houston.  Another example includes encouraging scholarship among members.

Dr. Littles was one of the keynote speakers for two Chapter webinars and she presented her research at a podium presentation in Scotland last summer. In addition, she fostered relationships with other chapters and collaborated for the Founder’s Day program, the Black History program, the Food Bank Harvest Marathon, and the Nurses Week program. She also served the community through her participation in the Alzheimer’s Walk, the Back-to-School Food Drive, the Alnita Community Baby Shower, and Wreaths Across America.

Dr. Littles is the first President and/or officer to set a leadership succession plan for incoming officers. She is also involved in several other organizations, such as the Texas Nurses Association, the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiologists, and the Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
