  • Spring Induction Ceremony Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Delta Omega Chapter

    You are invited to attend the 2024 Annual Delta Omega/Sigma Theta Tau (Sigma) Induction Ceremony at the University of Akron on 4/14/24 starting at 1:00pm.  The Induction Ceremony will be held in the University of Akron's Jean Tabor Hower Student Union in the Gardner Theatre (Second floor of the Student Union in Room 210). Dress is business professional/business casual.  Parking information is at this link:  https://www.uakronpark.com/visitor-parking/  As a member of Delta Omega, we are sure you remember the excitement of your invitation and induction ceremony. She has earned a Master of Science in Midwifery degree from Georgetown University and a Master of Public Health from George Washington University. Ms. Franklyn obtained her BS in Nursing from Syracuse University, and she bleeds ORANGE. Shakira is passionate about fostering cultural humility and has leveraged over 25 years of deep understanding of diverse populations to enhance her leadership as a holistic nurse. Her commitment to continuous learning and respectful engagement served as a foundation during her service in the Peace Corps as a Global Health Service Partnership Volunteer. Coveting a unique partnership with the Peace Corps and Seed Global Health. Ms. Franklyn served as Visiting Midwifery Faculty in Liberia, West Africa. Her dedication to the people of the communities she taught, along with her ability to learn from the same people she serves, earned her the 2016-2017 Fellow in Global Clinical Education. Ms. Franklyn considers herself a global citizen. She knows her strong Caribbean and Latin American roots have anchored her world exploration. Her love of travel and cultural exploration steadily evolved into a desire to be of aid to others internationally. Ms. Franklyn’s commitment to holistic care and mentoring the next generation of healthcare leaders serve as a pillar for Korpo Health and Wellness.

  • Board and committee members for 2024-2025 Alpha Kappa-at-Large Chapter

    This is a reminder that the Alpha Kappa-at-Large elections for 2024 is coming up in March and we are looking for members that want to get involved.  These are positions for the 2024-2025 academic year.  Please be aware that elected positions are for 2 years.   Please find a list of the positions and a summary of responsibilities for each that are elected. If you are interested in any of these positions listed below, please reach out to Melissa Mooney, mmooney@regis.edu by 2/29/24.  The ballots will be going out to members mid-March for elected positions.    President: The President-elect will move into this role.   Treasurer:  Prepare an annual report to the chapter membership regarding the treasurer's responsibilities and activities.  Develop, maintain, and modify fiscal policies and procedures in collaboration with the appropriate committee, advisory council, or task force.  Be custodian of chapter funds.  Prepare and present a current financial report to board of directors at each meeting.     Leadership Succession Chair:  Prepare an annual report to the chapter membership regarding the leadership succession committee responsibilities and activities. Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to the leadership succession committee. Submit modifications or new policies and procedures to the board of directors for approval. Develop members in organizational leadership roles across the span of their career.  Mentor members to assume positions at all levels of the organization. Oversee the selection of members who can provide the necessary leadership to achieve chapter goals and to meet the needs of members. Manage the preparation, distribution and tallying of election ballots. Notify all candidates (elected and non-elected) of the election results.  Counselor (Regis and MSU)  Prepare an annual report to the chapter membership regarding the counselor’s responsibilities and activities.  Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to the position of counselor. Submit modifications or new policies and procedures to the board of directors for approval.  Lead the procedure for determining membership eligibility and inducting members.  Develop strategies for publicizing and informing students and nursing leaders of membership eligibility criteria.  Secure necessary data from the official records of students to determine eligibility status.  Notify students of their eligibility status and send out the appropriate membership application materials.  Prepare and set up inductions using the Online Induction System. Should download the latest  version and consult the Online Induction System manual for each induction.  Prepare for inductions by downloading and customizing the induction scripts and slides.  Work with the appropriate parties to plan induction ceremony events.  Download and send the “Sample Letter to Send Before Induction” to each eligible candidate before induction.
